Location: Salt River Canyon-White Mountain Apache Reservation. Abide by all regulations.
Description: At the bottom of the canyon, you go west on the primitive road, which is somewhat rough, but 4X4s are not required. 2az.us! See Map icon
Route: The trailhead is on the right, 4 miles in, you’ll pass two camping areas before reaching Cibecue Canyon.
Rating: Cibecue Canyon-Moderate. Depending on water flow, wading may be required. Side Canyon-Difficult. BE MINDFUL OF SNAKES & WILDLIFE.
Seasons: Year-round, but very hot in summer.
Permit: Special Use Permit is required for each adult (any person 15 years or older) hiking, camping, fishing, biking, canyoneering or sight-seeing in the Black and Salt River Special Use Area. Purchase the permit at the bottom of the canyon at the Salt River Canyon Inn (east side of SR 60), or call the number below.
Suggestion: We strongly suggest you call before your trip to make sure the area is open.
