Although close to town, the Superstition is truly Wilderness. If you are planning a simple day hike on one of the popular trails like First Water, Peralta or Jacob's Crosscut, our map will help. However, Our maps are summarized, are not drawn to scale, and provide basic information on trails, routes, roads, etc.

If you are planning an extensive multi-day hike deep into the wilderness, we strongly suggest you acquire forest maps or in-depth topographic maps from the Tonto National Forest or Wide World of Maps.

Permits are not required for individual visits. For fire restrictions, trail information or in-depth maps, contact the Tonto National Forest, Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.

Row 1
TR 104 Dutchman's Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 18.2 miles
Long trail intersecting many trails. Generally in good condition but parts are heavily used. Begins at First Water TH off FR 78, ends at Peralta TH at FR 77.
TR 241 Black Mesa
Trail Rating: Easiest
Length: 3 miles
Easy trail except for last section which is rocky and steep. Begins at TR 236, ends at TR 104.
TR 108 Coffee Flat Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 7.9 miles
Interesting trail linking the western and central Wilderness; canyons subject to flooding. Begins at TR 114, ends at TR 104.
TR 236 Second Water
Trail Rating: Easiest
Length: 3.3 miles
Heavily-used trail which passes through Garden Valley. Begins at TR 104, ends at TR 103.

TR 129 Bull Pass Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 1.6 miles
Steep, eroded trail, between Boulder Pass and LaBarge Canyon. Begins & ends at TR 104.
TR 102 Peralta Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 6.2 miles
One of the most heavily-used trails in the state; often down to bed-rock with difficult footing. Begins at Peralta TH off FR 77, ends at TR 104.
TR 114 Woodbury Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 2 miles
East portion old mining road. West portion access to Fraser Canyon and TR 108. Begins at FR 172A, ends at FR 108.
TR 235 Bluff Spring Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 3.4 miles
Heavily used, steep and difficult. Begins & ends at TR 104.

TR 107 Red Tanks Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 8.9 miles
Steep, difficult, rough, not recommended for horses. West portion access to Fraser Canyon and TR 108. Begins TR 108, ends at TR 104.
TR 111 Hoolie Bacon Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 4 miles
Seldom used, sections difficult to follow.
TR 105 Peter's Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 7 miles
Excellent vistas but parts are vague and very difficult to follow. Begins at Tortilla TH, ends at TR 104.
TR 106 JF Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 10.2 miles
Main north-south trail named after pioneer cattleman Jack Fraser. Begins at Woodbury TH ends, at Tortilla TH.

TR 212 West Pinto Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Refer to Forest Service maps.
TR 110 Rogers Canyon Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 1.9 miles
Scenic trail with creek crossings. Portions steep and difficult for horses. Rogers Canyon subject to heavy flooding. Begins at TR 109, ends at TR 106 at Tortilla Pass.
TR 112 Frog Tanks Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 6.8 miles
Little-used trail. Eastern section old roadway; southern section difficult: very steep. Not recommended for horses. Begins at TR 109, ends at TR 110.
TR 239 Cavalry Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 3.2 miles
Crosses from Boulder Canyon to LaBarge Canyon. May be difficult to locate at creek crossings.

TR 117 Reavis Gap Trail

TR 118 Fire Line Trail
Rating: Both Most Difficult

TR 109 Reavis Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 15.3 miles
The northern 2/3rds of this trail is the old roadway to former homestead. Begins at Reavis TH at FR 212, ends at Rogers Trough TH at FR 172A.
TR 287 Plow Saddle Trail
Rating: More Difficult
Length: 0.4 mile
Connecting trail for TR 109 & TR 112.
TR 238 Whiskey Springs
Rating: Easy
Length: 2.1 miles
Connecting trail for TR 104 & TR 1107.

TR 103 Boulder Canyon Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 7.3 miles
Rough, scenic vistas along Boulder Creek: crossings subject to floods. Not recommended for horses. Begins at Canyon Lake TH on SR 88, ends at TR 104.
TR 234 Terrapin Trail
Rating: Most Difficult
Length: 2.9 miles
Interesting trail on the east side of Weavers Needle. Begins at TR 235, ends at TR 104.
TR 58 Jacob's Crosscut Trail
Rating: TR 58 Easiest
Length: 6.35 miles
