McDowell Mountain Park
Directions: Take SR 87 to Fountain Hills, go north on Shea Blvd., then north at Fountain Hills Blvd. (McDowell Mt. Rd.) the park entrance is 4 miles north of the city limits.
Ride: Two hour, 13.5-mile loop on sweet mountain single track. A few tough climbs and swift twisting descents in great-smelling, old-growth pine and aspen forest. Trail is well-marked; if you don’t see a yellow diamond on a tree, backtrack.
Rating: Technical Loop 2.9 miles--Expert Only
Rating: Sport Loop 3 miles, Difficult--More Difficult
Rating: Long Loop 8.2 miles--Difficult
Seasons: Year-round
Camping: Call for fee and reservation information.
Niceties: Gas, food, lodging in Fountain Hills.
Other Biking/Multiuse Trails: Located at Trailhead Group Area parking lot.
Rating: Pemberton Trail 15.3 miles--Moderate
Rating: Scenic Trail 2.8 miles--Moderate
Hiking Only Trails: Lousley Hill Trail., Hilltop Trail, North Trail, Wagner Trail, Granite Trail and Eagle Trail.
